Doc Talk #197 – Digital Health

In this week’s show, Dr Dan and Jamieson discussed digital health.

The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the adoption of digital health technology and it is important that the benefits we have seen from this are sustained, even as COVID-19 appears to be declining.

We are in an era when you can use your watch to check your ECG and detect irregular heartbeats, apps that use your phone’s camera to measure heart rate, and smart watches that measure your sleep, heart rate and stress!

Virtual health offers benefits to both patients and physicians. The ConsultDerm service allows Canadian physicians to upload photos of their patients to obtain an expert dermatological opinion within a day or two. (If your doctor isn’t aware of this, let them know about it! Dr Dan has made significant use of this for his patients.

We also discussed some of the evidence about the potential benefits of digital health.
