Doc Talk #194 – Fake News and the Era of the Armchair Epidemiologist

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, fake health news has been very problematic. We talked about where fake health news come from, some of the motivations and tips on how to spot it.

Spreading misinformation can be just as serious as the pandemic. In Arizona, a husband and wife couple consumed aquarium cleaner because they were anxious about coronavirus, and one of them died.

In Iran, which was one of the hotbeds of coronavirus, the consumption of methanol has led to blindness and deaths in hundreds.
