Doc Talk #158 – The Most Important Meal of the Day (or is it?)

There is a fascinating history behind the saying “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”, which originally started as a marketing slogan for breakfast cereal!

In this episode, Dr Dan and Jamieson discussed the role of breakfast and health. We talked about the impact of breakfast on childhood learning and academic performance, the beneficial impacts of eating breakfast on glucose metabolism and the “second meal effect”.

We also touched on intermittent fasting, weight loss, reasons that people skip breakfast and answered the question posed at the beginning of the show.

There are also some suggestions for breakfasts which work well as part of a Mediterranean diet.
