Doc Talk #75 – Addiction

 

 

Addiction is a major problem throughout Canada, including Alberta, in both urban and rural settings. Managing addiction and mental health is one of the top priorities in the province for Alberta Health, and Alberta Health Services. It is recognized in the government’s Valuing Mental Health strategy, and there is a serious amount of work going on to improve access to addiction services.

In this episode of DocTalk we discussed the nature of addiction, factors that can influence someone’s chances of developing an addiction and how to recognize the signs of addiction in a family member, friend or colleague.

We gave advice on what to do if you think someone close to you has a problem with an addiction and mentioned a bunch of resources, which we have listed below.
